Manatees, affectionately known as sea cows, thrive in the waters around Miami, especially in Biscayne Bay and along Florida’s coast. These gentle, herbivorous creatures play a vital role in our ecosystem and are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Manatees primarily feed on aquatic plants and are often found in shallow, warm waters. Due to their vulnerability to human activities like boat strikes and habitat loss, ongoing conservation efforts are essential to safeguard these incredible animals and their habitats.
At iPaddle Miami, we offer guided kayaking or paddleboard manatee viewing tours that bring you up close to Florida’s gentle manatees, and sometimes playful dolphins!
Encountering these “sea cows” from a kayak or SUP is an extraordinary experience, perfect for families and anyone looking to connect with marine life. Manatees are known for their gentle, curious nature and often swim up to say hello!

Age & Safety Requirements
- Minimum renter age: 18 years old
- Children 10 years old and older may use their own equipment but must be accompanied on the water by an adult 18 years old or older
- Minimum passenger age: 5 years old
- Children 12 years old and under are required to wear a PFD/life vest at all times
